To mark the 10th anniversary of Belgian beer’s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we have spared no expense or effort. Together with VISITFLANDERS, we invite you to an extraordinary pairing evening: to accompany each perfectly matured premium cheese from Flanders’ most renowned affineur, Frédéric von Tricht, we will serve two beers (0.1l each) – one from the Belgian Brouwerij ‘t Verzet and one from Brauerei Lemke. Founder and brewer at Brouwerij ‘t Verzet
As the rebellious mastermind behind the Belgian brewery ‘t Verzet, Alex Lippens flouts traditional conventions and gives beer a completely new identity through daring ingredients and wood barrel ageing. With a healthy dose of stubbornness and uncompromising standards of quality, he creates characterful sour beers that radically push the boundaries of established taste.

Basti Oberwalder

Master Brewer at Lemke Berlin Brewery
Master Brewer Bastian “Basti” Oberwalder is the creative force behind the brewhouse at Lemke Brewery Berlin and, as production manager, steers the fortunes of the capital’s brewery with a genuine hands-on approach. He is a recognised expert on Berliner Weisse, is behind a host of limited-edition releases under the Beer Machine label, and is a fixture in Berlin’s beer culture.

Markus Raupach (Moderation)

International Beer Sommelier & Cheese Sommelier
Having founded the German Beer Academy and authored over 50 publications – including regional guides and the official chronicle of the German Brewers’ Association – Markus Raupach is regarded as one of the most prominent ambassadors of German brewing culture. The Bamberg native has received numerous awards for his tireless commitment as a journalist, event organiser and media professional, and has even been made an honorary knight of the Brotherhood of Belgian Brewers.

Frédéric Van Tricht

Cheese Affineur “Kaasaffineurs Van Tricht”
As a renowned Flemish cheese affineur and culinary ambassador, Frédéric Van Tricht refines artisanal cheese specialities with genuine passion in his maturing rooms until they reach perfection. To ensure maximum enjoyment, he prefers to break with old conventions and pairs his complex masterpieces not with wine, but with elegant, characterful beers.

Programme:

  • 6.30 pm Doors open & welcome: Arrive and get in the mood with a beer aperitif and some tasty nibbles
  • 7.00 pm Live tasting: Start of the guided pairing journey through 6 courses featuring cheese, chocolates and beers from the two breweries – as well as conversations with our guests from Belgium
  • 10.00 pm Wrap-up & socialising: A relaxed get-together with the opportunity for a chat with everyone involved
