12.07.2024 / The wow of the month: Two of the Berliner Weisse beers from Brauerei Lemke Berlin have been included in Falstaff’s prestigious list of the best sour beers. Both our Luise Königliche Weisse and our Budike Weisse have managed to secure a place among the best twelve sour beers “of all time” (in the words of Falstaff). This is a great success and a wonderful recognition of our brewing skills and passion.
Budike Weisse – Resurrection of the traditional sour beer from Berlin
Budike Weisse was the first of our Berliner Weisse beers to be bottled. It marks the resurrection of the traditional, typical Berlin beer style. Because old recipes from the heyday of the city had not survived, Budike Weisse is the result of a long research and development process in collaboration with the TU Berlin. It took over two years and more than 100 test brews before a typical Berliner Weisse returned in the form of our Budike: sour, fruity and pure without syrup.
The Falstaff jury awarded the Budike Weisse an impressive 93 out of a possible 100 points. It impressed with its fruity aroma and complex interplay of flavors. “Crisp, gripping and very typical of the style!” summarizes the taster. With this unmistakable character, it has earned a place on the Falstaff best list.

Luise Königliche Weisse – royal splendor among the best sour beers
Falstaff awarded Luise Königliche Weisse 92 out of a possible 100 points: “Unconventional and good!” is the tasters’ verdict. It impressed with a mix of acidic fruit aromas, notes of rose and sandalwood and a woody touch.
For us, Luise is truly a masterpiece and has of course always been one of the best sour beers in Berlin – and now, thanks to Falstaff, one of the best of all time. This strong beer variant (8% alcohol content after all) among our Berliner Weisse is a wonderful aperitif: simply whenever sparkling wine or other sparkling wines are served.
